1. Exhibition Introduction
The 2018 Cambodia Electricity and Energy Exhibition is recognized by the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce and is strongly supported by the Cambodian Chamber of Engineers, making it the largest industrial exhibition in Cambodia. It is expected that the 2019 Cambodia Electricity and Energy Exhibition will attract at least more than 10,000 professionals to seek new technologies, equipment supply information and partners. The Cambodian government has put forward a series of plans, determined to generate electricity, transmission and distribution. At the same time, the national building materials and construction industry are developing rapidly, and the demand for electromechanical equipment has also increased substantially. This exhibition provides an excellent market platform for suppliers. On this platform, exhibitors have the opportunity to communicate with the government, public utilities, developers, consultants, power engineers, architects, electrical and mechanical engineers, contractors, installers, and retail Communicate face-to-face with suppliers.
During the 2019 Cambodia Electric Energy Exhibition, a number of top industry leaders and international experts will deliver relevant professional speeches. You can share your experience and ideas with industry experts from various countries to better understand the status quo and problems of Cambodia's power industry. This exhibition will definitely bring the world's top technology and a one-stop business communication platform to exhibitors and visitors to achieve sustainable development.
2. Market background
Overview of Cambodia's electricity market: Cambodia currently imports electricity from Thailand and Vietnam to meet the power shortage in some large cities (such as Phnom Penh). The Cambodian government’s goal is to enable 70% of the country’s population to have access to electricity by 2030. By 2020, Cambodia needs US$1 billion to develop a power grid system to meet the electricity needs of approximately 60% of rural residents in the country who are still without electricity. Currently, about 11,205 villages rely on car batteries and candles for lighting. There are approximately 1.8 million households in these villages. Cambodia will meet the electricity demand of these households through alternative energy sources, such as photovoltaics, biomass power generation, and small hydropower stations. Cambodia has a weak industrial base and is one of the least developed countries in the world. Insufficient investment in infrastructure construction, including electricity. Therefore, although Cambodia has formulated relevant policies to vigorously develop power infrastructure, the actual construction situation depends on the implementation of funds. At this stage, aid funds from international financial organizations such as the World Bank and some countries are still one of the important sources of funds for Cambodia’s infrastructure construction.
——World Ranking of Cambodia's Investment Environment:
In the 2013 business environment rankings, Cambodia's business environment ranked 133th among 185 countries and regions in the world.
——Cambodia's policy on the remittance of profits from foreign-funded enterprises
According to the relevant laws and regulations of the National Bank of Cambodia, the Royal Government allows investors to purchase foreign exchange through the banking system and remit these currencies abroad to perform financial obligations related to their investment, including remittance of profits.
In addition, if an investor is allowed to formally dissolve the company, regardless of whether it goes through judicial procedures, the investor can transfer the remaining funds of its overseas assets. However, if the duty-free machinery and equipment used by the company to be dissolved is less than five years old, the company is obliged to pay additional duties on these machinery and equipment.
——The relationship between Cambodia and China
The two countries formally established diplomatic relations on July 19, 1958. In the 1950s and 1960s, Premier Zhou Enlai and Chairman Liu Shaoqi visited Cambodia, and Prince Sihanouk visited China six times. Since the establishment of the new Cambodian government in 1993, high-level visits between China and Cambodia have been frequent.
In April 2006, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council paid an official visit to Cambodia. The two parties issued the "Joint Communiqué between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia", announcing the establishment of a comprehensive partnership. In December 2010, Hun Sen visited China and the two countries established a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
At the beginning of 2014, Cambodia's infrastructure construction will also usher in a new period of strong demand. Peter Brimble, senior economist at the Asian Development Bank, said that the announcement of the scale of projects such as the Cambodian railway and infrastructure has shocked him. This is the largest project in the country's history. Last year, the global economy was in a downturn, but the Cambodian economy as a whole performed well. Earlier, the International Monetary Fund changed Cambodia’s economic growth rate from 6.35% to 6.5%, while the Asian Development Bank estimated Cambodia’s economic growth rate to be 6.4%.
The main sources of electricity in Cambodia are hydropower stations, oil-fired power generation, and electricity purchased from neighboring countries such as Vietnam and Thailand. At present, the country's electricity supply reaches 791 megawatts, which still cannot meet the demand. From 2013 to 2017, Cambodia will successively build 5 hydropower stations and several coal-fired power stations, which will increase the power supply by 1,609 megawatts. From 011 to 2015, the total power generation is expected to grow at an annual rate of 54%, reaching 7.9 terawatts (TWH) per hour. The Asian Development Bank will inject capital into the power project from Laos to Cambodia. The transmission line from Kratie to Phnom Penh is in place.
